Mob attacks Yug’s killers outside Shimla court, residents demand death sentence

SHIMLA: Residents protesting against the killers of four-yearold Yug Gupta protested against the incident while an angry mob attacked two of the three accused arrested in the case.

The three accused — Chander Sharma, Tejinder Singh and Vikrant Bakshi — were produced in a local court as their police remand had ended on Saturday. The judge extended their police remand for another four days. The situation in the court premises turned tense as an agitated mob gathered outside. Yug’s father Vinod Gupta and other relatives had also gathered there. They were also joined by many litigants visited the court.

The cops accompanyi­ng the three accused had a tough time in controllin­g the mob as protesters thrashed the main accused, Tejender Singh, and his aide Chander Sharma.

Meanwhile, local residents of Keleston and other areas of the town staged a protest near the water storage tank from where the police had recovered the skeletal remains of Yug Gupta.

The residents demanded action against the municipal corporatio­n for supplying contaminat­ed water to the residents. Notably, the police had recovered skeletal remains of Yug from the tank six days ago.

The residents also demanded a death sentence for those behind the killing of Yug Gupta, who was abducted by his three neighbours two years ago from the Ram Bazar locality.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad also staged a protest outside the office of the mayor and deputy mayor.

The situation turned hostile when cops on duty stopped the student activists from barging into office of municipal corporatio­n (MC ). Girls at the RKMV college also held a protest. The left-wing student organizati­on, Students Federation of India (SFI) also staged a protest march expressing solidarity with Yug’s parents. Besieged by grief, Yug’s family wants justice for their son. With pain and anguish visible on his face, Vinod said, “We had earlier met the chief minister and on Friday met the governor and demanded that no mercy be shown to the culprits. They should be hanged to death and their family members should be boycotted.” A resident of Ram Bazaar here, Vinod runs a wholesale shop of grocery items. BAR BOYCOTTS ACCUSED

Meanwhile, the Shimla Bar Associatio­n has directed its members not to take up the case of the three accused. “We have decided not to fight the case of the three accused,” said associatio­n president Prem Negi.
