4 low-intensity tremors hit Himachal, no loss reported
EPICENTERED IN KULLU, SCHOOLS SHUT IN RAMPUR SUBDIVISION; JOLTS FELT IN RAMPUR AND ROHRU AREAS OF SHIMLA
SHIMLA: Four low-intensity tremors, epicentered in Kullu region, jolted several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.
Shimla meteorological centre director Manmohan Singh told HT that these tremors were felt at 6.44 am, 7.05 am, 9.10 am and 12:37 pm. Their magnitude was measured as 4.6, 4.3 4.2 and 4.6, respectively, at the Richter’s scale, he added.
In Rampur, aftershocks kept rocking the region and people remained outside their houses for long. After tremors, the district administration shut schools in Rampur sub-division.
Tremors were felt in Anni in Kullu district and Rampur and Rohru areas of Shimla district.
The tremors created panic and people ran out of their houses at several places. There were some reports about housed developing cracks in houses in Rampur area. The administration has deputed four vehicles to alert people in the region through loudspeakers. Shimla deputy commissioner Rohan Chand Thakur said there were reports of tremors in the morning. “I received reports of several tremors in Shimla district and the administration is alert.” He added, “There is no report of loss of life or property due to earthquake.” Chaman Gupta, a resident of Rampur, said he felt the tremor in the morning and his family is outside the house since then. “After the first jolt, we felt aftershocks,” he said. 75 QUAKES HIT HP IN 10 YEARS: MET DEPT
Meanwhile, the met director said that in the past 10 years, 75 earthquakes were felt in Himachal, out of which 60 had epicentre within the state.
