Manjit Singh GK and Manjinder Singh Sirsa were on Thursday re-elected as president and general secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) for a second consecutive term of four years.

The newly elected House of the DSGMC, with 46 elected members and five co-opted ones, elected the office-bearers.

Among other office-bearers, Harmeet Singh Kalka was elected as senior vice-president, Harmanjeet Singh vice- president and Amarjeet Singh Pappu joint secretary.

In the elections held on February 26, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) won 35 of the 46 seats.

The election of the office-bearers was postponed on March 26 and March 28 as the party couldn’t reach a consensus. The other senior leaders vying for top posts included Avtar Singh Hit, Onkar Singh Thapar and Kulwant Singh Bath.

Before Thursday’s election, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal met a group of elected members at his residence.

The party high command accommodated Hit as a core committee member in the SAD, Thapar as senior-vice president and recommended Bath’s name for nomination in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

After taking over the charge of DSGMC chief, GK told HT that the House passed a resolution to reclaim Gurdwara Gian Godri on Har ki Pauri in Haridwar, which was encroached by some miscreants a few years ago. It was also decided to celebrate 550th birth centenary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019.
