ABUSE CLIP INVOLVING ARMY GOES VIRAL, MEHBOOBA ORDERS PROBE
SRINAGAR : A string of disturbing videos have ratcheted up political temperatures in Kashmir amid mounting bitterness between civilians and the security forces .
Two videos of army personnel’s alleged human rights violations against young Kashmiri men and boys have outraged the Valley, forcing chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to order a probe. This comes a day after three videos of CRPF personnel being roughed up by mobs purportedly in Kashmir went viral .
The first video that surfaced on Friday purportedly show a young man tied to an army jeep allegedly as a human shield against stone pelters. The army said it was probing the video.
Army sources said the five-vehicle convoy led by a major in Rakshak jeep had a few soldiers, 12 poll officials, 9 men from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and two J&K personnel. “They came under heavy stoning with locals, including women, in Budgam area, attacking the convoy from rooftops,” the sources said.
“The incident took place in 53 RR’s area of responsibility. It was do or die and the major who volunteered to serve in Kashmir took the call, deciding not to open fire and unleash bloodbath,” the sources added.
The video caused outrage in the Valley. “I understand the outrage the CRPF video generated. I’m also outraged that the video of the youth on the jeep won’t generate the same anger,” former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.
This fanned the anger triggered by another video that purportedly showed security forces opening fire allegedly on a bunch of children pelting stones. DGP SP Vaid said they have filed an FIR in the case.
He said they have identified 11 persons, of which five were called for questioning in the CRPF heckling case. Of the five, three have been arrested. Vaid said the main accused is still at large.
