Budget session: Capt to chair CLP meet on June 13

PARTY LEGISLATOR­S TO DISCUSS STRATEGY TO COUNTER OPPOSITION

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress Legislatur­e Party (CLP) will meet here on June 13, ahead of the maiden budget session of the Captain Amarinder Singhled government in the state.

A party release said in the meeting, to be chaired by Amarinder, the CLP will discuss various matters listed for the session, to be held from June 14 to June 23.

It would also chalk out a strategy for countering the Opposition effectivel­y on various issues it is likely to raise in the House.

Sources in the Congress said the CLP would also discuss how to defend the government on the controvers­y relating to power minister Rana Gurjit Singh’s former employees bagging sand mine contracts in the state.

Party MLAs will also deliberate upon the legislativ­e business to be transacted in the Vidhan Sabha and any other matter to be taken up in the session with the permission of the leader, said a party spokespers­on.

The budget session is scheduled to commence at 2 pm on June 14 with obituary references. The discussion on the governor’s address would be held on June 16 and June 19, as per the schedule approved by the cabinet. The CM has already indicated that several important decisions, with financial implicatio­ns, will be taken during the session to fulfil some key poll promises of his government.
