Captain should apologise for defaming Punjabis: Harsimrat
BATHINDA: Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Saturday attacked chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh for “defaming” Punjabis ahead of the assembly elections.
The Akali leader, who is also the Union minister for food processing industries, alleged Amarinder and Congress vicepresident Rahul Gandhi had claimed that more than 70% youths, which is nearly 1 crore people of Punjab, were drug addicts.
“Captain should clarify to which rehabilitation centres have these addicts been admitted,” said Harsimrat. “If he can’t prove his claim, he along with Rahul should apologise to the people of Punjab.”
On allegations against her brother and former revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia of his involvement in drug trade, Harsimrat said: “Why has the Congress government not raided the alleged drug factory in Majitha?”
The Union minister also lambasted the Congress government for not fulfilling its promises to farmers. She said here ministry will launch Kisan Sampada Yojana to promote food processing units throughout the nation.
“The beneficiaries will be directly incentivised by the Centre, with the state governments playing no role in it,” she said. She said two food parks have already been inaugurated in Punjab and seven new cold storage clusters will be developed soon.
