DEHRADUN: A 22-year-old gentleman cadet of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) from Bathinda, who died during his routine training after falling unconscious on a 10km cross-country track on Friday, was serving relegation of one course.
His original course mates had been already commissioned.
Sources in the academy said that Deepak Sharma, who died in a hospital, was under pressure to pass the course since he was already relegated by one course.
Although IMA authorities have failed to respond to HT queries, sources said that the cadet was relegated from his original course.
Sharma fell unconscious and fell down while he was on his routine cross-country run at Badshahi Bag running track in Vikasnagar on Friday afternoon. Although he was immediately rushed to a nearby Christian missionary Lehman hospital by jawans escorting the cadets, Sharma passed away during the treatment. “Police was informed at around 2.30pm. The body has been sent to Dehradun for postmortem after the inquest report was prepared by the police,” said Vikasnagar SHO SS Negi, adding that the exact reason of death could be ascertained after the post-mortem report.
Sources said Sharma’s family members arrived on Saturday to collect the body.
