P’KULA ARSON: HONEYPREET BOOKED
Added as accused in FIR that carries charges of sedition and conspiracy for violence in Panchkula on day of conviction
On the run since August 25, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s confidante Honeypreet Insan tops Haryana Police’s list of 43 persons wanted for the violence in Panchkula after the Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s arrest for raping two followers.
She was formally booked in Panchkula on Monday. “We have included her name in FIR no 345 as an accused,” said Panchkula police commissioner AS Chawla. That FIR carries charges of sedition and criminal conspiracy, and names dera functionaries Aditya Insan and Surender Dhiman Insan, among others, for inciting violence following conviction of the dera chief by a CBI court.
Chawla said they made her an accused as she did not join investigation, and specific charges against her will be decided later. Dhiman was the first to name her, at which the police issued a lookout notice on August 28. Chawla denied reports that she fled to Nepal. “We are looking for her within India,” he said.
Also at large is Aditya, the doctor-turned-follower and dera spokesperson.
Honeypreet is untraced ever since she accompanied the dera head when the Haryana government flew him in a chopper from the Panchkula CBI court to Rohtak’s Sunaria prison. “The identity of those giving information will be kept secret,” Chawla said.
Photos of the 43 accused have been uploaded on the police website. Honeypreet is the only woman on the wanted list. Most of the other accused are young men and some of them can be seen carrying sticks. Police requested the public and media to share videos or photos of the violence.
The Haryana Police are gathering details of their whereabouts after interrogating Pradeep Goyal, who was arrested in Udaipur. Goyal headed the dera’s local unit and was in touch with Honeypreet.
Besides Goyal, the Haryana Police arrested the dera chief’s aide and spokesperson, Dilawar Insan, from Sonepat on September 15. Prakash, alias Vicky, who is the brother-in-law of Aditya Insan, was arrested from Mohali on Sunday, Panchkula’s deputy commissioner of police Manbir Singh had said. Chawla said police need to question Honeypreet on Dhiman’s disclosures.
