Man found dead, woman unconscious in Karnal hotel
KARNAL : A 28-year-old married man was found dead and a 26-year-old woman, who was married to someone else and allegedly had an affair with him, found unconscious in a hotel room on the national highway-1 in Karnal on late Wednesday night.
The condition of the woman was critical and she was admitted to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College.
They have been identified as Jitender and Dipti, both residents of Sanghoi village of Karnal district.
Police sources said that after the preliminary investigations, it was suspected that they had an affair but their family members were not ready to accept their relationship as they belonged to the same village.
Also, the families of both Jitendra and Dipti had reportedly married them off with other partners against their will on March 6 and 12, respectively.
On Wednesday, the two of them reached the Karnal hotel on the highway around noon and hired a room after giving their identity proofs.
In the evening, when the waiter of the hotel entered their room, he found Jitender hanging from the fan and Dipti lying unconscious.
The hotel staff informed the police and they were rushed to the hospital where Jitender was declared brought dead.
However, the family members of the deceased held a protest at the police post in Karnal, accusing the girl and her family members of murder. Police registered a case of murder against Dipti and others and started investigations.
Karnal SP Jashandeep Randhawa said, “As per the allegations by the family members of the boy, the police have registered a case of murder, but the matter is under investigation”. However, the police were waiting for the postmortem report. They will also to record the statement of Dipti, when she regains her consciousness.
Jitender’s wife Meenu, who was also protesting at the police post, said, “My husband was murdered. He never told me about Dipti and he was very happy with our marriage”.
