Sikh radicals to hold conference at Damdama Sahib on Baisakhi

-

JALANDHAR: Sikh radicals announced on Thursday to hold a conference to solve ‘Panthic issues’ on April 14 at Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda.

Jathedar Dhian Singh Mand, while addressing a press conference here, said it was “high time to sort out Panthic issues to save the Sikh community”. “I appeal to all Panth sympathisers to join the gathering on Baisakhi,” he said. Mand was accompanied by Baljit Singh Daduwal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Amritsar chief Simranjit Singh Mann.

Mand said it was over a year since the Congress government took charge of the state but failed to identify those behind sacrilege incidents in the state and even failed to take action against those responsible for the killing of two protesters in the Behbal Kalan police firing.

Daduwal also demanded release of Sikh prisoners including those who were convicted for the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, as they had completed their term.

“All formalities have been completed as all Sikh prisoners have completed their punishment and now it’s just a political decision to release them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Daduwal also said that Sikh bodies will not allow the release of the movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ as it shows a human figure portraying the role of the first Sikh Guru and it was “not acceptable” to the Sikh Panth.
