THE ABDUCTION IS SECOND SUCH INCIDENT IN BANDIPORA DIST IN PAST 3 DAYS, SAY POLICE

SRINAGAR: Militants on Wednesday night abducted a youth and fired upon his father at north Kashmir’s Hajin in Bandipora, the second such incident in the district in the past three days, police said on Thursday.

Manzoor Ahmad, 24, a shepherd by profession, was allegedly abducted by militants just before midnight on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said that militants, affiliated to the banned organisation LeT, barged into the house of Abdul Gaffar Bhat forcefully at about 11.45 pm on Wednesday and started to beat the inmates.

“Subsequently, the terrorists abducted Abdul Gaffar and his son Manzoor Ahmad Bhat. However, Gaffar was successful in escaping from their clutches though he sustained injuries in the firing that followed,” the spokesman said. Gaffar has been hospitalised though his son is still with the abductors.

“A massive manhunt has been launched to trace the abducted person,” the spokesman said.

On Tuesday, Muntazir Ahmad Parrey alias Naseer, 33, private car driver, was found murdered hours after suspected Lashkar-eTaiba (LeT) militants attacked his family members and abducted him from his in-law’s house in Hajin around at 10 pm on Monday, police said.

The police have said their investigations so far have revealed the involvement of Mohd Saleem Parrey of Hajin, who joined the militancy last summer is associated with LeT.

The police spokesman said Saleem was the “mastermind” who along with his foreign accomplices were behind the two abductions in Hajin.
