Caused no damage to the bungalow I vacated: Akhilesh
AGRA: Samajwadi Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav handed over the keys of the official bungalow allotted to him on Vikramaditya Marg in Lucknow to the Uttar Pradesh estate department, an official said on Saturday.
The move comes after the Supreme Court on May 7 observed that former UP chief ministers could not retain government accommodation after demitting office.
“Akhilesh Yadav yesterday (Friday) night handed over the keys of the government bungalow allotted to him to the estate department,” said department official Yogesh Kumar Shukla.
Asked about the video clips on social media which suggest that the bungalow was damaged, Shukla said: “We will check our inventory as to what things were provided by us, and what works were done by us. If shortcomings are detected and damages done intentionally are found, we will serve a notice to the occupant.”
Meanwhile, Akhilesh refuted the allegations that he had left his former residence in a shambles. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of lodging false propaganda against him.
“It is all false propaganda lodged by the BJP,” Akhilesh told media persons after performing ‘darshan’ at the Bankey Bihari temple on Saturday. “I have caused no damage to the house from which I moved out nor have I carried anything. Media (persons) should go to room of my children and the temple I had there,” he said.
