Spectator enters pitch in fresh security scare
Fans running into the ground to take selfies with Virat Kohli, is fast becoming a nuisance security personnel at cricket grounds across the country would really have to watch out for.
On Friday, just as the 15th over of the West Indies innings ended, a fan came running into the ground from the stands and hugged the India skipper fielding at short mid-wicket.
He took a selfie with his arm around Kohli and then had the time for a peck on his cheek before security officers overpowered the youngster and hauled him off the field as the crowd roared and clapped.
The umpires called for a drinks break as Kohli was visibly upset.
A similar incident happened on the first day of the first Test in Rajkot where a couple of fans made it to the ground to take a selfie with Kohli.
But unlike Rajkot, the ground here at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is separated from the stands with a moat, which runs around the turf after a seven-foot fencing.
So the fan, who made it to the ground, actually had the time to scale the fence, jump across the moat and then run a good 40m to get to Kohli.
This is the third incident involving the India skipper after a fan had run into the ground and touched Kohli’s feet at the Ferozeshah Kotla in Delhi during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) match against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
POLICE REGISTERED A CASE OF TRESPASSING AGAINST 19YEAROLD MOHD KHAN, WHO RAN INTO THE GROUND AND TOOK A SELFIE WITH VIRAT KOHLI.
