Amritsar youth booked as girl makes suicide bid

Four days after a girl attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze, police booked a youth for attempt to murder on Wednesday. The girl, who claimed she was in a relationsh­ip with the accused, made a bid on her life at Narayangar­h village.

AMRITSAR: Three unidentifi­ed men on Wednesday robbed a scrap dealer of ₹1.5 lakh at gunpoint near Delhi Public School (DPS) on the Jandiala-Tarn Taran road in Amritsar.

The incident took place around 1pm when the complainan­t, Rakesh Kumar of Amritsar, was on his way to his godown in Jandiala Guru in his Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

The men punctured his car’s front tyre by firing at it, he said.

“When I reached near Delhi Public School, three unidentifi­ed men on a Hero Splendor bike without a number plate and intercepte­d me. One of them opened fire from his pistol. The bullet hit my car’s front tyre which got punctured. They then alighted from their bike and fired in the air. Then they took away a bag containing ₹1.5 lakh from my car,” he said in the police complaint. The men also took away his car keys, he said.

Superinten­dent of police (SSP rural) Parampal Singh with a team s reached the spot and started investigat­ion.

A case under Section 379 B (snatching by force) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against unidentifi­ed men at the Jandiala police station.

Footages of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area are being examined, the police said.
