Two workers killed as machine falls on them
Factory owner booked for negligence
JALANDHAR:Two workers died and one sustained injuries after an iron compressor machine fell on them while working at Sidhu Industrial Corporation in Sultanpur Lodhi on Monday.
The factory makes components of railways and supplies them to the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala.
Those dead has been identified as Keval Singh, 62, of Ashok Vihar locality and Balbir Singh, 22, of Nakodar. Sawaran Singh, 39, of Talwandi Chaudhrian sustained grave injuries in the mishap.
A co-worker, Sham Lal of Sultanpur Lodhi, said the accident took place at around 11am when the workers were trying to compress some iron plates in the machine.
The machine installed over their head fell down due to unforeseen conditions, resulting in the death of Keval Singh and Balbir Singh on the spot, said Sham Lal.
Following the information of the accident, the Sultanpur Lodhi police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital.
Injured Sawaran Singh has been referred to Jalandhar by the Kapurthala civil hospital due to severe head injuries. His condition is stated to be critical by the doctors.
Sultanpur Lodhi station house officer (SHO) Sarabjit Singh said the machine was heavy as it was used to compress iron sheets. The mishap lead to the death of two workers on the spot.
Police have registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) against the owner of the factory, Purshotam Singh, his two sons Dhanpreet Singh and Dilpreet Singh on basis on eyewitnesses and preliminary inquiry.
When questioned by the media immediately after the incident, factory owner Purshotam had refuted the allegations of negligence and had said they had recently got all machines repaired.
Following the FIR, all accused are absconding. The bodies of the victims have been handed to their families after conducting the post-mortem examination.
