MAN HURT IN CELEBRATORY FIRING AT WEDDING
A man was injured at a wedding reception in Chaubara village of Fatehabad district on Wednesday night, when another man indulged in celebratory firing.
Fatehabad deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jagdish Kajal said, “The wedding reception of Hardeep Singh, a village resident, was being held, when one of his relatives, identified as Krishan Kumar, fired in the air from his double barrel gun. The bullet hit the foot of another relative of the bridegroom, Balwant Singh.”
“The police inspected the spot and initiated the process of registering an FIR,” he said.
“The matter will be thoroughly investigated,” the DSP added.
Notably, the Haryana government had banned carrying of arms at wedding functions, following the death of an orchestra dancer in celebratory firing at a marriage event in Bathinda district of Punjab in 2016.
The government had instructed district magistrates to keep a vigil on wedding events and other social functions and treat celebratory firing as an offence.
Balwant, who was injured in the incident, was admitted to a private hospital in Fatehabad district.
The Fatehabad police have procured a video of the incident and started investigations into the matter. They said action would be taken at the earliest.
