HC rejects prearrest bail to Faridkot rape victim’s father
FARIDKOT : The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of the 2012 Faridkot abduction and rape case victim’s father in another case in which he was accused of rape.
The accused on October 25 had approached the high court which issued notice to the state government after a 26-year-old Nepalese woman accused him of raping her by promising her a government job. Police had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) led by SP-headquarters Gurmeet Kaur, who recommended registration of a case against him.
A case was registered against him on September 27. On October 13, the Faridkot district and sessions judge dismissed his anticipatory bail. The decision came on a time, when the Faridkot administration all set to hand over the compensation of ₹90 lakh to the 2012 Faridkot minor rape victim and her family as per the directions of Punjab and Haryana HC.
On August 31, the high court had directed the convict in the minor’s abduction and rape case, Nishan Singh (who is serving life sentence) and his mother Navjot Kaur, to pay ₹90-lakh compensation to the victim and her family.
On November 12, the district administration auctioned 4 acres of agricultural land registered in the name of Nishan and his mother to hand disburse the compensation to the victim and her family. HTC
