Po­lice file chal­lan against teach­ers, BKU mem­bers

PA­TIALA: The lo­cal po­lice have filed the chal­lan against 12 peo­ple, in­clud­ing two lead­ers of teach­ers’ unions and state pres­i­dent of Bhar­tiya Kisan Union (BKU, Ugra­han), in a lo­cal court in less than a week af­ter they were booked for vi­o­lat­ing the or­ders of the dis­trict mag­is­trate.

A case was reg­is­tered un­der Sec­tion 188 (dis­obe­di­ence to or­der duly pro­mul­gated by pub­lic ser­vant) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) against SSA/RMSA Teach­ers’ Union pres­i­dent Di­dar Singh Mudki, Adarsh Model School Union pres­i­dent Am­rit­pal Singh Sidhu and BKU (Ugara­han) chief Jogin­der Singh Ughra­han and nine oth­ers for hold­ing protest with­out per­mis­sion at Mehmad­pur grain mar­ket.

SSP Man­deep Singh Sidhu said the chal­lan was filed as the protest was in vi­o­la­tion of of the Pun­jab and Haryana high court or­der. The next hear­ing in the case is De­cem­ber 21.

“We told the court that the pro­test­ers had not taken per­mis­sion and the ap­pli­ca­tion filed by them was vague and didn’t fol­low the set guide­lines,” SSP said.

SSA/RMSA Teach­ers’ Union pres­i­dent Di­dar Singh Mudki said that the ad­min­is­tra­tion is hell-bent on quelling their protest and thus try­ing out ev­ery pos­si­ble tac­tic to build pres­sure on the teach­ers to end protest.

In its chal­lan, the po­lice men­tioned that the protest was held when the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion had im­posed Sec­tion 144 of the CrPC, pro­hibit­ing an assem­bly of more than four peo­ple in the area.

It may be men­tioned that the teach­ers un­der ban­ner of San­jha Ad­hya­pak Mor­cha called off their 57-day-long stir on De­cem­ber 1 af­ter as­sur­ances from govt.

How­ever, two unions of Sarva Shik­sha Ab­hiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Mad­hyamik Shik­sha Ab­hiyan (RMSA) teach­ers led by Di­dar Singh Mudki; and Adarsh School Teach­ers and Em­ploy­ees’ As­so­ci­a­tion, which were part of the mor­cha con­tin­ued the protest. They are hold­ing an in­def­i­nite protest at Mehmad­pur vil­lage on the Pa­tiala-San­grur road since Sun­day.
