Police file challan against teachers, BKU members
THE CHALLAN WAS FILED AGAINST 12 PEOPLE IN LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER BEING BOOKED FOR VIOLATING THE ORDERS OF THE DM
PATIALA: The local police have filed the challan against 12 people, including two leaders of teachers’ unions and state president of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU, Ugrahan), in a local court in less than a week after they were booked for violating the orders of the district magistrate.
A case was registered under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against SSA/RMSA Teachers’ Union president Didar Singh Mudki, Adarsh Model School Union president Amritpal Singh Sidhu and BKU (Ugarahan) chief Joginder Singh Ughrahan and nine others for holding protest without permission at Mehmadpur grain market.
SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said the challan was filed as the protest was in violation of of the Punjab and Haryana high court order. The next hearing in the case is December 21.
“We told the court that the protesters had not taken permission and the application filed by them was vague and didn’t follow the set guidelines,” SSP said.
SSA/RMSA Teachers’ Union president Didar Singh Mudki said that the administration is hell-bent on quelling their protest and thus trying out every possible tactic to build pressure on the teachers to end protest.
In its challan, the police mentioned that the protest was held when the district administration had imposed Section 144 of the CrPC, prohibiting an assembly of more than four people in the area.
It may be mentioned that the teachers under banner of Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha called off their 57-day-long stir on December 1 after assurances from govt.
However, two unions of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) teachers led by Didar Singh Mudki; and Adarsh School Teachers and Employees’ Association, which were part of the morcha continued the protest. They are holding an indefinite protest at Mehmadpur village on the Patiala-Sangrur road since Sunday.
