WHAT IT MEANS FOR KEY POLITICAL PLAYERS?
CONGRESS
A huge positive for the ruling party before the Lok Sabha polls. The morcha that looked like becoming a potent platform for the anti-Congress political forces has ended rather tamely with the state government’s two-pronged strategy of being tactful yet firm working in the end
SHIROMANI AKALI DAL
The decision to end the morcha is a reprieve for the Akalis who have been under constant fire for their mishandling of sacrilege incidents and police firing on protesters in 2015. The morcha was demanding action against the Badals who have been questioned by the SIT probing the police firing and sacrilege cases
AAP REBELS
Led by Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira, AAP dissidents got a huge boost after their October 7 march to Bargari to show solidarity with the morcha. But Mand’s announcement to call off the protest is a dampener for them, coming just 48 hours before their nine-day “Insaaf March” from Talwandi Sabo to Patiala
