Sup­ply­ing money to jail in­mates lands 2 in trou­ble

The district po­lice on Sun­day booked two per­sons, in­clud­ing a pris­oner, for il­le­gally sup­ply­ing money to other pris­on­ers in Ka­purthala jail, af­ter charg­ing 10%com­mis­sion from pris­on­ers’ fam­ily. The ac­cused, Ti­rath Nath and Gur­jit Singh (the pris­oner), both res­i­dents of Ka­purthala, were work­ing as in­ter­me­di­ates be­tween pris­on­ers and kin. They used to sup­ply money to those whose kin could not visit them fre­quently.

The ac­cused iden­ti­fied as Ti­rath Nath and Gur­jit Singh (the pris­oner), both res­i­dents of Ka­purthala, were work­ing as in­ter­me­di­ates be­tween pris­on­ers and their kins.

IN­MATES WHOSE KIN DIDN’T VISIT THEM USED TO GET MONEY

The duo used to sup­ply the money to pris­on­ers, whose kin could not visit them fre­quently.

Ac­cord­ing to the in­for­ma­tion, rel­a­tives of pris­on­ers used to send the money in the bank ac­count of Ti­rath’s wife and Ti­rath used to sup­ply them to Gur­jit.

Satnam Singh, su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice (SP in­ves­ti­ga­tion), Ka­purthala said, “Ti­rath used to hand over the money to Gur­jit on the pre­text of meet­ing him and charge 10 per cent com­mis­sion of the to­tal money from the pris­on­ers’ rel­a­tives.”

Mean­while, a case has been reg­is­tered un­der Sec­tions 42 and 45 of the Prisons Act and 120-B (crim­i­nal con­spir­acy) of the IPC at Kot­wali Po­lice Sta­tion, Ka­purthala.

Ti­rath used to hand over the money to Gur­jit on the pre­text of meet­ing him and charge 10% com­mis­sion of the to­tal money from the pris­on­ers’ rel­a­tives.
