ASI ARRESTED AFTER HE BEATS SADHU TO DEATH IN AJNALA

:An assistant superinten­dent of police was arrested for beating a sadhu to death in Ajnala on, 20 km from the district headquarte­rs, police said.

The deceased has not been identified yet but ASI Attar Singh had been posted at Mohkampura police station.

The incident took place at around 8:30pm on Saturday when the ASI was on his way from Mohkampura police station to his home in Jagdev Khurd village, in Ajnala tehsil.

Station house officer (SHO) of Ajnala police station Paramjit Singh said, “The ASI was in his Maruti Suzuki car. When the ASI reached in Ajnala market, he saw the sadhu in the market and started beating him.”

He said, “As per the eyewitness­es, the ASI was heard saying that sadhu is a Pakistani agent. While thrashing him, ASI also forced him to go to police station.”

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) (rural) Parampal Singh said the ASI was in inebriated condition and left the sadhu in critical condition. “With the help of passerby, sadhu was admitted to Ajnala civil hospital where doctors have declared him dead,” he said.

He said the ASI has been arrested after being booked under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ajnala police station.

The ASI was also presented before the duty magistrate in Ajnala on Sunday.
