Rape victim’s father held for extorting money from accused’s kin

AMBALA : Police have arrested a minor rape victim’s father on Thursday for allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from the accused’s family in Panipat.

Sub-inspector (SI) Suresh on Thursday said a mediator, Pushpender, had asked the girl’s father to reach a compromise with the accused’s family. Both the accused and the survivor have family relations.

“The girl’s father, however, demanded Rs1 crore for a comromise. Having alerted the police, Pushpender called the girl’s father to a canteen of a local temple and paid Rs 5 lakh as advance and promised him to pay the remaining amount by check. The police nabbed the girl’s father while taking money”, he added.

The SI said the police had registered the rape case against Rahul of Panipat on January 10. At present, the rape accused is in judicial custody.
