DIVISION STATUS TO LADAKH

Giving division status to Ladakh is a step in the right direction. Ladakh is different from rest of J&K in terms of geography and culture. In winters, people here depend entirely on air supplies, assisted by the army and air force. In such harsh conditions, the district administration had to still depend upon the divisional headquarters in Srinagar. Now that the divisional headquarters at Leh, half the problems will be solved here itself, and the Ladakhis will be better looked after. One should not unduly worry about agitations by the Kargil political leaders or other vested interests. Rotation of divisional headquarters is also not warranted as it will divide its attention and efficiency.
