-

A city court has sentenced six men to 10 years in prison and imposed fine on them for abducting a former station house officer (SHO) of Sector 29 police station in 2016. In case the convicts default on the payment of fine, they shall further undergo rigorous imprisonment for an additional one year, the court’s ruling stated.

Surinder Singh Phogat, then SHO, was kidnapped on June 30 that year, held hostage for eight hours and was released in Palwal the same night. As many as eight persons were made accused in the case. All of them are in the age group of 25-30 years, police said.

Later, police had arrested six people. Two others, suspected to be their associates, are still at large and have been declared proclaimed offenders by the court. The SHO was abducted by four people and four others had helped them keep him in captivity, said police, adding that those out on bail were arrested on Wednesday and sent to jail. HTC
