BOAST OF THE DAY

-

This came from Ajnala MLA Harpartap Singh Ajnala who referred to his foreign degree while speaking on the motion of thanks on the governor’s address. He also said he has not slapped a single false drug case against his political rivals. But BJP MLA Arun Narang pointed to political vendetta cases in Abohar, saying it was happening on home turf of state Congress chief Sunil Jakhar.

The speaker’s expunge list

The assembly saw some lighter moments when speaker Rana KP Singh loudly repeated the words that were to be expunged. When AAP’s Aman Arora used Punjabi expletives for the Akalis, Rana referred to one and ordered it be expunged. Arora later said he had not come to the House to use such language but was provoked by turn of events.

Claiming ‘kurki’ order credit

Speaking during the debate on governor’s address, Akali MLA Harinder Chandumajra gave credit to his father Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra for passing orders stalling action under Section 67-A of the Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, in 1986 when he was cooperation minister. The section according to Harinder entails ‘kurki of property’ of loan defaulter farmers.

Reminding Akalis of their days

When the Akali MLAs cried foul over canecharging of teachers in Patiala, Congress MLA Harminder Singh Gill said, “It seems you have forgotten the day when education minister Sikandar Singh Maluka assaulted female teachers and dragged them by plaits when they protested.”
