Dar is Kashmir’s 2nd local suicide bomber

- Mir Ehsan letters@hindustantimes.com n

Adil Ahmad Dar, who rammed his explosives-laden car into a CRPF bus , is the second local militant who turned himself into a suicide bomber.

In April 2000, a 17-year-old boy from Srinagar’s Khanyar locality, Afaq Ahmad Shah, became the first local Kashmiri suicide bomber and blew up a car in front of the heavily guarded army’s 15 Corps headquarters in the city. The attack signalled a shift in militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, which had seen many fidayeen attacks by foreign militants. Shah, a high school student, was seen to be reserved by his relatives and friends, who say they had no idea that Shah could turn himself into a suicide bomber.

Both Afaq Ahmad Shah and Adil Ahmad Dar were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad.
