19-yr-old shot at over old enmity, six booked

: Police on Sunday booked six persons, including two by names, after they allegedly opened fire at a 19-year-old youth over an old enmity in Muradpura village under Kambo police station.

The accused have been identified as Harwinder Singh and Surjit Singh of the same village, while the identity of four others was yet to be ascertaine­d by the police.

The case has been registered on the complaint of victim Jaideep Singh’s mother Amrik Kaur. She said, “On Saturday, my son was present in home when the accused entered our home and started firing at him. In the firing, two shots hit my son’s legs.”

She said when she raised an alarm, the accused fled the spot.

ASI Baldev Singh of Kambo police station, who is investigat­ing the case, said, “It was an old enmity between the accused and the victim. On the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object) of the IPC and 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.”

Efforts are being made to arrest the absconding accused, the ASI said.
