BALLOONING SUBSIDY

Rising power subsidy is another drain on the state exchequer. Though appeals have been made to big farmers have elicited no response, the state hasn’t helped things by adding to its subsidy bill. It is pegged at ₹12,397 crore in 2019-20 due to additional burden on account of power at ₹5 a unit to industry, removal of upper cap for weaker sections and new tubewell connections.
