The state government on Monday said it will slap a case of intimidation and defamation on former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia for issuing “abusive threats” against inspector general of police (IGP) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.

State advocate general Atul Nanda said the case was being filed on the direction of chief minister Amarinder Singh.

“I will not tolerate intimidation of officers by anyone. The Akali leaders have the habit of browbeating and threatening anyone who dares to go against them. They earlier used offensive language against Justice Ranjit Singh (retired), who headed the commission that probed the sacrilege cases,” he said.

Amarinder said the abusive and threatening language used by Majithia against Pratap in an interview showed the desperation of the Akali leaders, given the fact that the IG will be back in the special investigation team (SIT) and resume the probe against their party in the police firing cases.

“They tried to scuttle the probe by getting Pratap transferred out of the SIT through the Election Commission, which is acting as a tool of the BJP government at the Centres,” the chief minister further said.
