Turnout crosses 70% in Haryana
CHANDIGARH: The voter turnout statistics for the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana increased to 70.29% following updating of the voting data by the Election Commission (EC) on Monday.
The turnout in 2014 general elections was 71.41%.
As per fresh figures available on the EC mobile application, Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency recorded the highest turnout at 75.97% while Faridabad was the lowest at 64.13%.
Kurukshetra constituency registered a turnout of 74.32% followed by Hisar 72.16%, Ambala 71.15%, Rohtak 70.74%, Sonepat 70.72%, Bhiwani-Mahendergarh69.84%, Karnal Lok Sabha constituency 68.54% and Gurgaon 67.37%.
THREE-LAYER SECURITY IN PLACE TO PROTECT EVMS, VVPAT MACHINES
A three-tier security arrangement backed by CCTV cameras has been put in place for all EVMs and VVPAT machines used in May 12 polling in Haryana, additional director general of police (ADGP, law and order) Navdeep Singh Virk said.
He said EVMs and VVPAT machines were brought to the designated strongrooms from all polling stations and police and paramilitary personnel will guard the rooms round-theclock.
Detailing about the three-tier arrangements, he said that in the first layer, Central Armed Police Forces are deployed near the strongrooms, Haryana Armed Police personnel in second layer and district police personnel are manning the outer layer.
As many as 90 strongrooms have been established at 38 locations with 24x7 tight security and CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of EVMs and VVPAT machines. EVMs will be opened on May 23 for counting.
Director general of police (DGP) Manoj Yadava appreciated all ranks of state police and other security forces who actively participated in peaceful conduct of Lok Sabha polls in the state.
Yadava said general elections in Haryana were conducted in a smooth, peaceful and incident free manner and applauded the officers and personnel of Central Armed Police Forces, Jharkhand Police, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary, Punjab Police, Kerala Police, Home Guard Volunteers, Special Police Officers and police trainees who assisted the state police in conduct of elections.
