TERMS IT ENEMY NO. 1 OF SIKH PANTH, PRAISES BJP OF ENSURING CONVICTION OF ANTISIKH RIOT ACCUSED

AMRITSAR : SAD’s Khadoor Sahib candidate Jagir Kaur trained guns at the Congress over Operation Bluestar and the 1984 antiSikh riots in Tarn Taran on Wednesday.

Speaking at Gagobua village, which was once a hotbed of militancy, the two-time Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president said, “The Congress party committed the greatest sacrilege when it attacked the Akal Takht Sahib (the highest temporal seat of Sikhs). Indira Gandhi was the PM, when in 1984 the Indian Army barged into the Golden Temple and fired bullets inside the premises. In the attack, the Akal Takht was demolished and bullets pierced the ‘birs’ (copies of the Guru Granth Sahib). It was a shameful incident.”

She said, “The Congress is the enemy of Sikh Panth. The people of Punjab should not forget Operation Bluestar.”

Kaur said, “In 1984, Sikhs were burnt alive in Delhi. It was the Congress party that was in power when the carnage took place. It has been 35 years but the wounds of the Sikh community are still raw.”

Commending the BJP for taking perpetrators of the 1984 riots to task, Jagir Kaur said, “PM Narendra Modi formed a special investigation team, which gathered enough proof to ensure conviction of a Congress leader who was responsible for the riots.”

“The Central government also passed the resolution for opening the Kartarpur corridor. Once it opens, the Sikh community in India and abroad will be able to pay obeisance at the historic Gurudham,” she said.
