JuD chief Saeed’s brother-in-law arrested in Punjab for hate speech

The Punjab government in Pakistan arrested Abdul Rehman Makki, the brother-inlaw of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed for hate speech.

Makki, who heads the outlawed group’s political and foreign relations wings was shifted to a Lahore jail, days after delivering a speech criticisin­g the government’s crackdown against banned outfits in Pakistan.

Widely seen as JuD’s secondin-command, he was designated by the US in 2010.

US PUTS VISA SANCTIONS ON 3 PAK OFFICIALS

The US has imposed visa sanctions on three senior Pakistani interior ministry officials after a a row over repatriati­on of some 70 deportees from the US who over stayed or violated visa rules.

Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a parliament panel that the officials were overseeing the country’s policy on accepting back nationals deported from other countries.

The US has over the past 18 months deported over 100 Pakistanis, all of whom were accepted back.

PUNJAB PROVINCE TO BE BIFURCATED : MINISTER

Pakistan is going ahead with its plan to create the new South Punjab province by bifurcatin­g Punjab and would move a bill in the National Assembly, foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced on Wednesday. Punjab is Pakistan’s second largest province by area after Balochista­n. It is also the most populated province and politicall­y influentia­l. In the run-up to the 2018 general election, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had promised to bifurcate the province.
