VOTERS WISH FOR HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE STATE
HT asked electors of all age groups why they came out to vote and the issues which they wanted their representative to focus on. Voters primarily want candidates to root out corruption, improve transport and health facilities, and work towards gender equality.
I voted for a party and candidate, who will take note of issues such as rise in crime against women, pollution control and lack of facilities in government colleges and schools. It seems politicians are disinterested in developing our villages and cities.
Srishti Dangi, 20, student, Rohtak
Voting is very important and one must not skip voting just because it is a holiday. People must select a government, which will focus on providing government jobs to the unemployed youth.
Vaibhav Kumar, 28, private company employee
Inflation and drug abuse among children were important issues for me. I voted for the candidate who promised to ensure women empowerment and create new job opportunities. I focused on the candidate’s image rather than the party’s image.
Manju Devi, 35, teacher, Rohtak
Issues such as lack of security and CCTV cameras on the roadways determined my vote. Farm distress, sporadic of power supply, parched canals and stray cattle menace were the key issues in this election.
Rajesh Devi, 33, conductor in Haryana roadways, Meham
Most parts of our state do not even have basic facilities, including transport and health. Students have difficulty reaching college on time due to overcrowded buses. I want the next government to resolve these issues.
Ritik Sharma, 19, BTech student, Yamunanagar
Most leaders forget their promises after being elected. Thus, it is important to elect good people who work without bias. The next government should ensure that all people get basic facilities, with special focus on educating the poor.
