74-yr-old man 3rd to die of Covid in Mohali

MOHALI : A74-year-old Zirakpur man, who died at a private hospital in neighbouri­ng Panchkula city, and a 24-year-old woman who gave birth at Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, on Thursday, tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, taking the number of confirmed cases to 98 and fatalities to three in Mohali district.

Meawhile, three residents of the hotspot Jawaharpur village in Dera Bassi subdivisio­n — two women, aged 32 and 80, and a 67-year-old man — were discharged, taking the number of recovered patients to 52 and bringing down the number of active cases to 43 in the district.

The 74-year-old man, a resident of Jaipurias Sunrise Greens in Zirakpur, was suffering from lung cancer. He was hospitalis­ed on May 7 and was tested positive posthumous­ly, becoming the third person to succumb to Covid-19 in Mohali.

Mohali civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said the victim was staying with his daughter and his cremation had been performed as per protocol under the observatio­n of health officials.

“We will collect samples of his family members and will also trace his contacts. We have already sealed the area in Zirakpur,” he said.

WOMAN TESTS POSITIVE AFTER DELIVERY

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old woman of Milkh village in Kharar block of Mohali is the first case in the district wherein the infection has been detected after delivery of a child.

“Health teams have already sealed the village and will collect samples of her family members. The doctors in the hospital will also take samples of her child and husband,” he said.
