76 more Covid deaths, 2,441 cases in Punjab

AMRITSAR/LUDHIANA/PATIALA/ JALANDHAR/BATHINDA: Punjab on Saturday reported 76 more Covid-related fatalities, taking the death toll to 2,288. The state also witnessed 2,441 fresh infections, pushing the tally to 77,057, according to the state government’s media bulletin.

Ludhiana again topped the chart with 14 deaths, followed by 11 from Amritsar, 10 from Jalandhar, seven from Gurdaspur, five each from Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar, and four each from Barnala, Patiala and Kapurthala, three from Fatehgarh Sahib, two each from Bathinda and Sangrur and one each from Muktsar, Mohali, Moga, Pathankot and Tarn Taran, the bulletin said.

Fresh cases were reported from Mohali 331, Jalandhar 313, Patiala 268, Ludhiana 267, Amritsar 257, Bathinda 137, Gurdaspur 118, Hoshiarpur 110, Pathankot 100 and Muktsar 72.

65-yr-old man dies after report comes positive

A 65-year-old man of Kotla Doom in Amritsar district died minutes after receiving his Covid-19 positive reports at Amritsar civil hospital on Saturday. The man, who was suffering from fever and cough from past few days, visited the sample collection centre of the district hospital, to get himself tested. The doctors collected his nasal swab samples for conducting rapid antigen tests, reports of which comes in just 30 minutes. Soon after the report of rapid antigen test came positive, doctors told him to fill a form for home isolation but he fainted on the spot. The man was rushed to the district hospital but the doctors declared him dead.

2 Sangrur villages refuse entry to health teams

Residents of Toor Banjara and Ubhawal villages of Sangrur district did not allow entry to health teams wanting to visit in connection with Covid-19. In Toor Banjara, the team wanted to collect samples, but villagers did not relent even after police came.

Malkit Singh of Toor Banjara said they requested health workers that the locals did not want to go in any clash. “We will not get tested and we will not allow the entry of health teams for this purpose,” he added.
