SGPC on alert as Sikh bodies firm on Monday meeting
SGPC chief Longowal is camping at the gurdwara body headquarters and holding meetings with the office-bearers
AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) functionaries are on an alert as members of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee and other likeminded Sikh organisations are adamant on hold a gathering in the Golden Temple complex on Monday on the issue of missing saroops of the holy book.
This despite the fact that SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal on Friday said these organisations would not be allowed to hold any kind of demonstration on the premises claiming it would violate the sanctity and maryada of the shrine.
The members of the Satkar Committee on Saturday said Longowal’s statement would not affect their programme as announced. In a video, they said Manji Sahib Diwan Hall has a history of witnessing several agitations and they are doing nothing wrong.
This has sent the SGPC into a tizzy as members of the Sikh bodies may launch a permanent sit-in there.
To deal with the situation,
Longowal is camping at the gurdwara body headquarter and holding meetings with the officebearers. The SGPC has called its employees to the office adjoining the shrine complex even on Sunday, the weekly off, to prevent the Sikh activists from gathering there.
Simranjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and the Dal Khalsa have postponed their meeting from Monday to September 17, as per a press release. To chalk out a joint action plan in case of the missing saroops, the meeting is being held at the Akal Takht.
SGPC CHIEF HAD ON FRIDAY SAID THE NOBODY WILL BE ALLOWED TO USE SHRINE PREMISES FOR DEMONSTRATION
