CHANDIGARH/BATHINDA/ AMRITSAR/SANGRUR: Various farmer bodies across Punjab held protest marches on Sunday and burnt copies of agri bills and effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the new legislations will destroy their livelihood.

In Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Sangrur and Barnala, the protesters raised slogans against the BJPled government at the Centre, apprehending that the three bills will pave a way for dismantling the minimum support price system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates.

In Amritsar, farmers took out a protest march from the deputy commissioner’s office to

Kachehri Chowk and blocked the Amritsar-Ajnala road for around one hour.

Addressing the protestors, farmer leaders condemned the police action on protesters in Haryana.

They appealed to the farmers to take part in the ‘rail roko andolan’, which is going to be launched from September 24.

Addressing a gathering of protesters at Badal village in Muktsar, state secretary of BKU (Ekta-Ugrahana) Shingara Singh Mann said they will launch a ‘rail roko’ protest from September 24 to 26. Harinder Singh Lakhowal, a front leader of BKU (Lakhowal) said all 31 farmers’ unions have extended to support three-day ‘rail roko’.
