CHANDIGARH: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha that is leading the farmers protest against the Centre’s three contentious agriculture laws will stage protests outside governor houses in all states on June 26.

Farmers have been protesting on the borders of the national capital since November 26 last year, after the three bills were passed in September.

While making the announcement of the stir on Tuesday, Prem Singh Bhangu, who heads the legal cell of the union, said: “June 26 marks the completion of seven months of the kisan morcha and seven years of the Union government led by Narendra Modi.”

He said memorandum will be submitted to the President of India through governors requesting him to intervene in the situation as the Modi government has “adopted adamant attitude towards the farmers”.

The morcha’s legal wing also rejected the meagre rise in the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy and other crops, which it said is below the production cost. It demanded that the MSP be given as per Swaminathan formula of 50% plus profit over the input cost, and marketing of all crops be assured.

The union is also opposed to the amendment in the Electricity Act, under which, it said, the government is planning to withdraw free power to agriculture under the garb of direct benefit transfer.
