In an effort to promote agricultural development of the state, the Yogi Adityanath government has pushed upon the production of 'sulphur-free' sugar in Pipraich and Munderwa sugar mills. Pipraich Sugar Mill is the first sugar mill in North India to produc

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is making all efforts to restore the status of Purvanchal as a sugar bowl. In this endeavour, the closed Munderwa, Pipraich and Ramala sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh State Sugar and Sugarcane Development Corporation Limited have been made operational.

The Pipraich Sugar Mill also has the distinction of being the first state-owned mill in the state to make sulphur-free sugar. It is expected that this year Pipraich Sugar Mill will also become the first sugar mill in North India to produce ethanol directly from sugarcane juice. There is also a plan to set up a distillery plant in the mill.

At a time when sugar mills were becoming a loss-making deal, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath implemented a strategic plan to make these mills self-reliant. The daily crushing capacity of these sugar mills can be increased from 50 thousand quintal to 75 thousand quintal. The co-generation plants of 27 MW have also been installed in both the mills so that the mills can consume 7 MW of energy per day and sell 20 MW to the grid. As a result, along with environmental protection, both the mills are earning money by making electricity. Special care has also been taken that these mills should remain profitable and farmers should not face any problem in payment of sugarcane price. This is the reason that both these mills have become helpful to the farmers even during the corona times. The Sugarcane Research

Institute is also being built at Pipraich.

RECORD PAYMENT TO 1.13 LAKH FARMERS

From the crushing season from 2018 to 2021, these two sugar mills have benefited 1,13,040 farmers of Basti and Gorakhpur districts. These farmers have sold sugarcane worth Rs 485 crore to both the mills. During the crushing season 2020-21, 24.98 lakh quintal of sugarcane was crushed by Pipraich Sugar Mill. The balance due amount of

Rs 454.41 lakh has been paid by the mill on account of the total cane price payable from its sources.

MAKING RURAL WOMEN SELF-RELIANT; HELPING THEM EARN Rs 53.88 LAKH

The state government has been making continuous efforts towards women empowerment. In Gorakhpur region, with the help of mills and sugarcane department, nurseries of 33.10 lakh saplings were prepared through single bud chip method by giving training to rural women to make them self-reliant during the pandemic. As many as 55 Self Help Groups of rural women were formed and 653 women belonging to these groups have earned an income of Rs 53.88 lakh from the sale of nursery plants.

Sulphur-free sugar will be produced at Pipraich Sugar Mill. Along with this, 27 MW of electricity will also be produced. These steps will not only help in generating an income of Rs 30 thousand crore and enabling timely payment of sugarcane prices to the farmers, but will also help in generating electricity for the people. This sugar mill will propel the prosperity of the farmers and employment of the youth.
