GOLD WORTH ₹21 LAKH SEIZED AT AMRITSAR AIRPORT
The customs officials recovered gold worth around ₹21 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar from Dubai on Wednesday, a spokesperson of Amritsar Customs (preventive) said. Divulging more details, the spokesperson said that based upon the profiling of passengers, one passenger, who arrived by SpiceJet Flight from Dubai, was intercepted after crossing through the green channel.
“On being asked as to whether he was carrying any contraband or dutiable or any precious metal, he replied in negative. However, after his search and examination of his baggage, the passenger was found to be carrying gold in paste form, which was concealed and glued between the layers of the vest worn and the cardboard box carried by him,” he said.
The recovered gold weighed 410 grams, valued at ₹21.69 lakh. Further investigation is in progress, the spokesperson said.
