WOMAN SHOT DEAD OUTSIDE COURT COMPLEX IN BATHINDA

BATHINDA: A masked assailant shot a 39-year-old woman dead outside the Bathinda court complex on Friday.

The crime spot is one of the most crowded places in the city and has a bus stand, district civil and judicial complexes and a police post in the vicinity.

Though the police have identified the accused, they have not revealed his name. Bathinda range inspector general of police SPS Parmar said the investigation is on and more details about the assailant will be shared on Saturday. Police said prima facie it appeared to be a case of old enmity.

Eyewitnesses said the woman, identified as Kulwinder Kaur of Haji Ratan locality of Bathinda, was talking to two persons on the footpath outside the court complex when the assailant arrived on a motorcycle wearing a facemask. The woman had an altercation with the shooter before she was fatally shot at. The shooter took advantage of the crowd and fled, they said.

Eyewitnesses said the assailant fired three bullets at the woman. She was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Doctors said the woman suffered bullet injuries in the chest.

DSP (investigation) Davinder Gill said a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against the assailant.
