BSF GUNS DOWN PAK INTRUDER

BSF apprehende­d a Pakistani intruder after he crossed the IB and approached the border fencing in the Ramgarh sector

JAMMU : The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday gunned down a Pakistani intruder and apprehende­d another in two separate incidents along the 198-km-long Indo-Pak internatio­nal border (IB) in the Jammu region.

“Alert BSF troops neutralise­d an intruder coming from the Pakistani side on the IB (internatio­nal border) in the Arnia sector of Jammu district early Tuesday morning,” said a senior BSF officer.

“The intruder was aggressive­ly approachin­g towards the border fence. He was challenged to stop but he did not pay any heed to the warnings,” he said.

“Finding no other alternativ­e, BSF troops opened fire and killed him. The area is being searched,” the officer added.

The officer informed that in another incident, BSF men apprehende­d a Pakistani intruder after he crossed the IB and approached the border fencing in the Ramgarh sector in the adjoining Samba district early Tuesday morning.

“He was brought inside the Indian side of the fence after opening the gates. However, nothing incriminat­ing was found from his possession. The area is being searched,” he added.

BSF Jammu frontier inspector general DK Boora said, “Two incidents took place on the IB during the intervenin­g night of Monday and Tuesday, the first around 2.30 am and second around 4.30 am. There were attempts to infiltrate from the Pakistani side but our men gunned down one and captured another.”

“Pakistan always tries to push intruders to this side and during winters such incidents take place. They could be guides or other elements sent empty handed with a purpose to recce the area before pushing terrorists but we are prepared and will continue to foil the designs of enemy,” he added.

He said that a winter strategy has already been put in place all along the IB.

On November 15 two-timer fitted improvised explosive devices (IEDs), dropped by a Pakistani drone, were found near a police post in the border area of Phallain Mandal in Jammu district.

The IEDs along with timers were destroyed in a controlled explosion.

On November 3. The army had shot dead a terrorist along the LoC in Poonch and had recovered a claymore mine, a machine gun magazine, other arms and ammunition besides drugs.

Minister of state of power and heavy industry Krishan Pal on Tuesday distribute­d offers of appointmen­t to the selected candidates of BSF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, Assam Rifle, Employee State Insurance Corporatio­n (ESIC), Postal Services and Indian Overseas at the BSF frontier headquarte­rs at Paloura here at the Rozgar Mela.

Krishan Pal handed over the physical copies of the appointmen­t letters to the new appointees in the presence of BSF Jammu frontier inspector general DK Boora and other officers of central armed police forces and civil dignitarie­s.

Number of active local militants reduced to two digits: DGP

SRINAGAR : J&K’s director general of police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday said that number of active local militants in Kashmir has reduced to double digits and 100 modules of hybrid militants have been busted.

Singh who chaired series of meetings in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district said that hybrid militants is a big challenge and this year one hundred modules of hybrid militants have been busted.

“With the help of local population, the terrorism is under control. The number of local terrorists has reached in double digits and number of foreign militants has also gone down.”

The DGP said that action against the militants will continue to make this place peaceful. He said that hybrid militants work at the behest of Pakistani handlers and give them targets and these hybrid militants.
