1kg IED recovered from bus in J&K’s Ramban, destroyed

JAMMU: An improvised explosive device (IED) fitted with timer was recovered from a minibus at Nashri checkpoint on busy Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district on Friday, making it the third such seizure in the region in the last 12 days. The IED was later destroyed by the security forces.

Ramban senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Mohita Sharma said, “We recovered a timer-fitted IED weighing 1kg from a minibus at Nashri check post on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday around 12.30pm.”

“It was wrapped in plastic and concealed in a box. The IED was later destroyed safely in a controlled explosion. It was a narrow escape for passengers of the minibus,” she added.

“We have detained the driver and conductor of the minibus for questionin­g,” the SSP said.

On Thursday, the police had recovered arms and ammunition, including an IED, dropped by a suspected Pakistani drone in Vijaypur area on Jammu-Pathankot highway in Samba district. The consignmen­t had two pistols, four magazines, 60 rounds, two batteries, and one detonator besides Indian currency worth ₹5 lakh bundled in 10 packets. The IED was later destroyed.

On Tuesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) had gunned down a Pakistani intruder and apprehende­d another in two separate incidents at Arnia and Ramgarh sectors along the IndoPak Internatio­nal Border in Jammu region.

On November 15, two IEDs, delivered by a Pakistani drone, were found near a police post in the border area of Phallain Mandal in Jammu.

On November 3, the Army had shot a terrorist dead along the LoC in Poonch and had recovered a claymore mine, a machine gun magazine, other arms and ammunition besides drugs. In June last year, two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were injured after Pakistani drones managed to drop off explosives at the high-security IAF station in Satwari.
