ENRICA LEXIE CASE: SC ORDERS ₹5L AID TO NINE PEOPLE

The Supreme Court on Friday directed that a compensation of ₹5 lakh be paid to each of the nine crew members of an Indian vessel in which two Indian fishermen were killed in firing by Italian naval marines aboard Enrica Lexie vessel in February 2021.

The court directed this amount to be paid out of the ₹2 crore received by the boat owner and captain out of a total of ₹10 crore paid by the Italian government following an Arbitral Award between India and Italy in May 2020.
