Police: Differently abled Raj woman gang-raped
POLICE SAID SHE WAS ALLEGEDLY GANG-RAPED WHEN SHE TOOK OUT CATTLE FOR GRAZING
A 20-year-old Dalit woman with hearing and speech disabilities was allegedly gang-raped in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Thursday, a senior police officer said on Friday.
Dhorimanna station house officer (SHO) Sukhdev Bishnoi said the alleged crime was committed when the survivor had taken cattle out for grazing on the family’s farm. He added that an FIR has been registered against unidentified people under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376(d) (gang rape) and 342 (wrongful confinement).
“According to the complaint filed by the survivor’s father, three or four men abducted the survivor and gang-raped her in a forested area. They fled the area leaving the girl in an unconscious state,” Bishnoi said.
The SHO said that her family members traced the survivor and rushed her to a hospital. Suspecting sexual assault, doctors at the hospital called the police, the SHO said.
Superintendent of police Deepak Bhargav said that the survivor was unable to give further details about the incident.
Police teams have been constituted to identify and apprehend the accused, the SP told reporters.
