MBBS students end hunger strike, IMA extends support

ROHTAK: The protesting MBBS students of the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here on Saturday ended their hunger strike following an appeal by the chief of the Indian Medical Associatio­n (IMA), who extended the organisati­on’s support to their protest against the Haryana government’s bond policy.

IMA national president Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh visited PGIMS and met with the protesting students.

He asked the 10 medical students sitting on hunger strike for the last two days to end their fast after the health of two of them deteriorat­ed. They were admitted to the PGIMS emergency ward where their condition was stated to be stable.

Dr Sahajanand said the entire medical fraternity was supporting the MBBS students and assured the protesters that all the doctors will come together if the state government fails to address the students’ issues.

not met. The students have been demanding roll back of the contentiou­s bond policy. An IMA delegation also met PGIMS Director Dr Shamsher Singh Lohchab and asked him to provide 24-hours medical and security assistance to the striking students.

Protesters to suspend emergency services

The protesters have also announced to suspend all emergency services at the PGIMS from Sunday. They also took out a protest march from PGIMS campus to power house in the city.
