Kaithal police rescue 8 Nepalese nationals

The developmen­t comes following probe into the arrest of six members of the gang last week for allegedly kidnapping a Kaithal youth

KARNAL: Eight Nepalese nationals, including two women, were rescued by the Kaithal police from Kolkata with the arrest of eight members of an inter-state gang allegedly involved in kidnapping youngsters for ransom on the pretext of sending them abroad.

Kaithal superinten­dent of police Maqsood Ahmed on Saturday said that the developmen­t comes following investigat­ion into the arrest of six members of the gang last week by the police for kidnapping a youth of Bakal village in Kaithal district, who

was rescued from their custody from Mumbai . He was allegedly kidnapped by them and kept for a fortnight in Kolkata to extort money from his family promising to arrange his immigratio­n to Canada.

Ahmed said that the accused were taken on police remand and during interrogat­ion, they disclosed that Sunil Kejriwal of Mumbai was involved in trapping the youths and kidnapped them with the help of other members. He used to keep them at his residence in Kolkata and

extort money from their family on the pretext of sending them abroad. The SP said that a 13-member police team conducted raids at different locations in Kolkata and rescued eight Nepalese nationals, including two women, from a house in Diamond Park locality. They have been identified as Sita Nepalese, Krishti, Subhash Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Suresh Budamagar, Prakash Budamagar, Shiri Gurung and Bar Kumar, all residents of Nepal.

The eight arrested have been identified as Praveen Kumar, Mohammad Husain of Kolkata, Anil Kumar of Shamli of Uttar Pradesh, Ravi Kumar, Prince, Pankaj, Mohit Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar of Karnal district.

The SP said that the Nepalese nationals were brought to Kolkata on the pretext of sending them abroad. Three of them were sent to Dubai and were kept hostage there for six months and later they were brought back to Kolkata as the accused were demanding more money from their family members. He said that the family members of the rescued Nepalese nationals have been informed and they will be handed over to them.

Ahmed told HT that the police have so far arrested 14 members of the gang and teams were working to arrest another main accused Sunil Kejriwal and more arrest were likely to happen in the case. He said that Sunil also has a network of agents in different states, including Haryana and Punjab, and they have so far extorted money from 35 youths.
