Erupting after 38 years

A fissure and lava flows on the Northeast Rift Zone are viewed during an overflight of the eruption of Mauna Loa volcano by geologists in Hawaii, US on Monday. Waves of lava and ash belched and sputtered from the world’s largest active volcano in its first eruption in 38 years, and officials told people living on Hawaii’s Big Island to be ready in the event of a worst-case scenario.
