Don’t let Amritsar’s cycle tracks go waste

-

The Amritsar civic authorities have laid down cycle tracks along major roads in the Civil Lines area, beautified by lampposts and landscaping. But there are few cycling enthusiasts in town. Hardly anyone uses these tracks except for a few around the upscale Hotel Taj and Trillium Mall. Sadly, these tracks have become havens for stray animals and used by pet lovers to walk their dogs for defecation. Residents dump garbage, particularly garden waste, there. The idea of the civic authorities has become counter-productive. Rather than letting this facility go waste, the authorities should prevent residents from misusing them. Encourage walkers and joggers to use the tracks instead of roads that are risky due to the traffic. These tracks can also be a safe alternative for pedestrians and cyclists for commuting.
