BOLLYWOOD DIVAS GO AU NATUREL
Minimal makeup is making a big statement, as celebs champion the barely-there look
Public appearances and film premieres have always been high on glamour. But Bollywood divas are not shying away from keeping it minimal when it comes to ththeir makeup.
In the string of recent events, a host of actors, including the very fashionconscious Sonam Kapoor, and actors such as Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari and Parineeti Chopra faced the shutterbugs in barely-there looks that include little to no makeup. This adds to the global trend of going au naturel, with even makeup-lovers like Hollywood reality star Kim Kardashian making a bold statement by posing makeup-free this month for the cover of an international fashion magazine and #nomakeup selfies becoming an internet trend.
Makeup expert Jojo says that barely-there makeup has the ability to make a big noise. “I am completely in favour of actors going for minimal makeup because less is always more when it comes to creating the natural look. Also, it makes for a practical approach — it’s easy, quick and as long as there’s good skin to back the look, it should definitely be flaunted,” says Jojo.
Like Bollywood, the runway is also not afraid of ditching loud makeup. “I love the no-makeup look on the ramp, especially when fashion is inching towards androgynous styles,” says designer Nida Mahmood. She adds that Bollywood glamazons ditching makeup can prove to be a positive inspiration for those just starting to experiment with makeup.
“I hope youngsters are inspired to go the minimal way like these celebs, and understand that it’s so much nicer to look fresh, rather than caked up,” she adds.
Beauty expert Ambika Pillai also gives a thumbs up to the understated look, but points out: “Minimalistic makeup is great, but something on the face needs to be highlighted. A touch of highlight on the cheekbones and just a bit of mascara can complete the look,” she says.
